At the City Hall of Kalamata on June 17, in the office of the Mayor of Kalamata Mr. Thanassis Vassilopoulos, a press conference was given regarding the participation of the Messinian police driver Giannis Plagos in the Acropolis Rally, with the support of all local forces!
Present at the press conference for the participation of Giannis Plagos in our National Rally were the Mayor of Kalamata Mr. Thanassis Vassilopoulos, the Member of Parliament for Messinia Mr. Periklis Mantas, the Director of Messinia Police Brigadier Mr. Elias Axiotonis and Mr. Jonh Christou, the big sponsor of the effort of Giannis Plagos, who will participate in the Acropolis Rally with his co-driver Alkis Rentis in a brand new Citroen C3 Rally2.
Mayor Thanasis Vassilopoulos spoke first, stating that the Municipal Authority has proven that it supports motor sports in every way, as it is a way of advertising the area.
In this context, he stressed that the Municipality of Kalamata supports an effort and a participation with a Messinian color, in a race emblematic not only for our country but also for the world community of Motor Sports, as the Acropolis Rally is one of the most historic races in Worldwide.
In closing, Mr. Vassilopoulos noted that he hopes that the participation of the Messinian driver Giannis Plagos, will be at the same time a very important opportunity to promote and advertise Kalamata, as well as the beginning of actions related to issues of driving safety and driving education.
Messinia MP Mr. Periklis Mantas then spoke, focusing on the importance of the participation of Giannis Plagos in the Rally Acropolis. He particularly stressed that through synergies-collaborations with the Municipality, the area can reap great benefits in the field of promotion, as they are expected to attend Rally Acropolis about 1 billion viewers worldwide. In conclusion, he called on all local actors to support the huge effort that has already begun.
The Police Director of Messinia, Brigadier General Mr. Elias Axiotopoulos, referred to the importance of this sporting event, emphasizing that the Greek Police is worthily represented by a great man, who honors the colors of the Greek Police.
In the same context were the statements of the expatriate John Christou, who stated that the goal is through the participation of Giannis Plagos, to promote the region of Messinia and a Greek driver to stand out in this great race.
The press conference was closed by Giannis Plagos, who thanked each one individually, emphasizing that his participation in this year's Rally Acropolis with Citroen C3 Rally2 and co-driver Alkis Rentis, started like a dream and now thanks to everyone's help, it has become a reality. He did not fail to comment that it is a first class opportunity to have a change in the field of Greek Motor Sports for the better, while he promised to give his best, honoring and promoting Messinia.
After the end of the press conference, the attendees renewed their appointment for today, Friday 18 June, when there will be a presentation of the car and the crew in the city of Kalamata, showing how important the participation of Giannis Plagos, for the wider area.
